The Mission
The cultural impact of missionary work across the world is astounding. The Mission highlights just a small segment of this, focusing on the North Sentianal tribe, who have risen to fame, or infamy, as being one of the last hunter-gatherer groups left across the globe. This is a deeply saddening documentary, but not for the main focus, being on John Chau’s death, but rather to see the disintegration of local tribes for the sake of spreading western ideals. This documentary does a wonderful job at keeping Chau’s story at the center of this conversation, tying it back to the main goal, which was to discuss the implications that missionary work has when spread to smaller populations. I’d love to see more about this topic, as it genuinely is a very interesting topic, but I’m glad that this documentary was able to bring it to the public and hopefully sparks more discussion about it in the future.
