Stardust Memories

Still a favorite from a biased review. All the emotions I felt the first time I watched this was after having seen the big ones: Annie Hall, Manhattan, Hannah and her Sisters, Crimes and Misdemeanors, all the "early funny films", and so this one hit me in a way I could not describe. It was making fun of the artist and at the same time, respecting oneself through the metaphysical, through walls broken. It is his "8 1/2" but more accessible and a shorter running time. What kills me every time is the last half of the film, the earnest beauty, brutal honesty, perfect movie moments, all in good fun of itself, mocking cinema at its finest. And when we see the famous Vietnam War photo from Eddie Adams, blown up in the backdrop of first world problems that captures the very nature of people now-- that we don't care, that we care, and that we care enough to care very little about the things that happen, and give all our cares to things in anxious proximity.
