Iron Lung

Confession: if I gave half stars this would be 3.5. I was a solid 3 (still pretty impressed!) until the final third, the blood-soaked descent into madness. Limiting who we experience all this with to just Markiplier visually makes that runtime really felt at times before, but from that point on (and you knowwhen it starts), it’s hard not to be fully onboard. Glad I caught that act on a big screen

gotta appreciate this for what it is. very ambitious project with a lot of work and love put into it, i gotta give credit for that. i have yet to play the game so i might update this once ive done so. the runtime is a bit too long but i could still enjoy it nevertheless kudos to markiplier and everyone involved! (except troy baker, dont like that guy)

Note: 8/10

I have so many thoughts but also no thoughts?? I 100% think you should go see this in cinema, even if its just to support Mark and the rest of the amazing team behind this movie. I am so so proud of Mark for this entire beast of a production. Im so happy for him as well. But I do believe growing up and watching him as a youtuber almost daily for almost 15 years made it near impossible for me to seperate Mark from the character he plays in the movie. I might withhold a proper review until i watch this movie again, to give myself time to actually understand my thoughts.

Iron Lung

This would’ve been 10x better as a short film and not the 2 hour runtime it had. Maybe part of this is my fault since I had no idea what the game was about, but so many things were left unexplained and unanswered, scenes were used over and over for no real reason, and I desperately needed subtitles. It wasn’t bad, I just had no idea what was going on most of the time!!

Iron Lung

Double Feature of the Day #1 - "Iron Lung," directed by Markiplier. As someone who's been a fan of Markiplier for over a decade, I really wish I liked this film more. If this film serves as an adaptation of its source material (of which I'm unfamiliar), it does not come across well. For most of its runtime, I felt confused as to what the hell was going on. Even when the film spells most of it out, it's held back by some spotty looking scenes and terribly muffled audio at times. I shouldn't feel like I need to look up what the film was about! If I have to do that, then at some point, the film failed in its delivery. That being said, if this is meant to be a companion piece to the original game, then it does its job in that regard! It certainly sparked my interest in the game and its accompanying lore. Though, at that point, why not just play the game instead? The spotlight for this film honestly goes to the general filmmaking, directing, and cinematography. There's an incredible atmosphere that builds throughout the film and explodes in the third act. It's all very kinetic and creative throughout, especially when it gets all "Evil Dead" towards the end. Markiplier DOES have the juice to make an incredible film, and I'm excited to see where he goes from here as a director. It's easy to see Mark is passionate about the source material and filmmaking as a whole (see "A Date with Markiplier" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yyU_1JD2wuA) or https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3tRBEVW0hiAr2J3W8pVycQMOwDI_h3iYhis many other live-action series (https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3tRBEVW0hiAr2J3W8pVycQMOwDI_h3iY&si=haFgcQPtTwx5kYF4)). I'm very excited to see what he'll do in his next feature, but as for right now, this one didn't quite stick the landing for me! Just a bit too confusing, slow and lengthy.

Iron Lung

❝This is not an expedition. It is an execution. When they put you in here, they don't want you to return. And even if you do, and even if they keep their promises... what freedom waits for you? A few dying ships in a sea of dead stars? If there is still hope, it lies beyond the veil. Hope in this void is as illusionary as the starlight. I will choose to breathe my last at the bottom of an ocean, unseen, unheard, and uncontrolled. They will get their execution. I will get my freedom.❞ ۫ ׅ ⊹₊˚‧ ︵‿ ₊ ୨ ᰔ ୧ ₊ ‿︵ ‧˚₊⊹ ׅ ۫ I've been watching Mark's videos for a very long time. Words can't explain how proud I felt seeing him on the big screen, and no matter what anyone says, the amount of work put into this film is astounding. Iron Lung is extremely faithful to its source material, and just like the game, even though the film mostly takes place in one environment, it manages to remain interesting. The lore is expanded on, and combined with some excellent VFX and set design, makes for an immersively spooky atmosphere. Mark's performance was pretty good, as was the acting from the cast in general, and I really liked the sound design of the film. However, I don't think it needed to be two hours long; the plot started dragging quite a bit around a third of the way through, which consequently made the ending feel a bit rushed. In my opinion, the story could've worked within an hour or an hour and half length run-time. On the whole, I really do think Iron Lung is a great indie horror, and I hope Mark continues making projects like this because he's a truly amazing person with so much talent. → side note: when mark took his shirt off briefly in the film, i immediately thought of the unus annus 'recreating the miracle of childbirth' video when mark's submerged in the bathtub and ethan says "mark you got a rocking set of tits dude 😏"
