Presumed Innocent

Accusations and suspicions fly once more, here as we continue to abandon Halloween month in the face of investigative and judicial shenanigans. I was more interested in the cloud of general doubt the low-key presentation seemed to be curating than I was about any sudden resolution, but I have to acknowledge at the heart this is a personal story of individuals as much as it is a story about the systems at play.

Presumed Innocent

72/100 This is a film less about case solving in the courtroom and more about the back of room politics and complex relationship dynamics. It’s definitely much more complicated than the TV show. You need to pay attention to all the words to really understand what is about to happen. Honestly, it’s really a perfect crime. So much planning went into it. The ending is really good and the description of the crime is woefully horrifying. I feel like Harrison Ford is the previous generation’s Tom Cruise. The man is a great actor and has an otherworldly movie catalogue but because he’s done those few action/ franchise films, people disregard his overall acting ability and legacy. Tom Cruise is a better actor for sure but suffers the same fate.  This film is smart and the show makes many changes to extend the story, most of which I genuinely like. Can’t wait for the finale tomorrow. Just had to watch this film to compare. I’m sure the killer won’t be the same here but let’s see.

What a fucking cast! Love seeing a bunch of fantastic actors just being given the opportunity to cook. Paired with direction and cinematography by two all time greats, and you get a certified banger.
