Sex, Lies, and Videotape is the better movie w James Spader being a weird freak imo. There’s something about the way Maggie Gyllenhaal moves and her overall mannerisms in this movie that make it entertaining. Definitely not the freakiest thing I’ve seen but there’s something so funny about it that I can’t really put into words. I think I just can’t take any of these characters or what they’re doing seriously.

She was attractive, he was not and it’s hard appreciating taking orders or being turned on by a second-rate Hugh Grant. I liked how the story and their relationship evolved though, and their chemistry was good, but I’m superficial so this not being a feast for the eyes felt very British, and perhaps intentional? I don’t know I haven’t read the book. Not rewatchable imo. I’m surprised this is somewhat of a cult classic. Are our standards that low? Then again, this is much better than 50 shades…
