Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers
[Producer's Cut] Well it did take me a while, but I think I finally realize that this is not a very good movie, lol. I think there was something more magical about this when it was an underground bootleg of the "Producer's Cut" that I bought 15 years ago, rather than having the crisp 4K Shout Factory release that we have now. I also decided to watch this with the audio commentary with writer Daniel Farrands and composer Alan Howarth to get some more background about the version of the movie that was elusive for so long. While they didn't give much history of how this version came to be rereleased, it was a good listen to on what went wrong during filming and screenings. Daniel Farrands also provided insight on his writing methodology on the movie that he was trying to make. Turns out, even with this producer's cut, there were a lot of ideas that were changed before and when filming started that veered away from some of his vision. Given all the issue, it seems that the movie was DOA when it hit theaters but it still provides an interesting case study on what all goes into a movie making process and how it all ends up.
Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers
Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers
[Producer's Cut] Full-tilt, MST3k levels of Satanic silliness juxtaposed against an actually dark backstory. I can dig it. Anyway, loses what little tension it has repeatedly and doesn't have nearly the same frivolity of the past few entries to compensate. (Treads that mid-90's paranoia thriller line a tad, and thus a bit out of its depth.) Impossible not to giggle at Paul Rudd's creeper, and I love the image of an aging Loomis habitually mindful of anything coming out of Haddonfield, even shock-jock radio hour.

"Go back to your loony bin. I've got enough problems around here without you stirring up ghost stories."
Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers
What exactly happened with Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers? Was there a discrepancy between the director the and the studio? Was there a problem with the writing, making them re-write the script? It may have been none of these or all of these, but there's one thing that is clear, this film is practically unbearable. There could have been an amazing psychological film here, but instead, there is a hodgepodge of weak lines and odd editing that make the film almost impossible to watch. After hearing so many things about this series, you'd assume that the films wouldn't be as good as the original but still were decent films, but sadly, the Halloween franchise dipped low and never was able to really pick itself up after the sixth film in the series.
Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers
This was wild Michael Had a child with his niece wtf!? 😟 I didn't really like this that much until the ending. It's still a weird storyline hopefully H20 is better
Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers
*watched the Producer’s cut* Clears up some of the plot holes in the theatrical cut, which relied more on kills and flashy editing than plot. The producer’s cut, on the other hand, has less gritty, but more realistic kills, as less is more in this case.
Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers
Woah. Not really sure which cut I watched but after the last two abysmal entries, Curse felt like a breath of fresh autumnal air. While I struggled to become invested the previous films, this one immediately caught my attention. I don’t know how else to say it other than it felt like someone was actually making a movie in this franchise again. It’s drenched in atmosphere and is the first film in the series since the first one to feel like the holiday Halloween, you know? The cult stuff is a bit…ehhhhh? But I thought some of those aspects (like the runes, star signs, and the explanation for Michael being an avatar of evil) were cool. Maybe I liked this so much because the other ones were so bad? Who knows, but either way I had fun with this one, and will be adding it to my yearly spooky szn rotation along with the original.
Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers
The beginning of this movie sucked, picked its self up but my god was the beginning terrible.
