Supernatural

Supernatural is an atmospheric whirlwind of supernatural delight. Carole Lombard plays a sweet Roma, who happens to become possessed by murderess Ruth Rogan after a seance. There’s a special charm that these pre-code films have, willing to artistically take risks and create genuinely stunning films. I was enamored by the uses of double exposures (and even triple in the intro!), which crafted a dream-like aura for the film to ride on. It’s a shame that Lombard found herself wanting to do more comedies, rather than horror films, becuase I could have seen her being a major contender for roles in horror films. Overall, I was enamored by this film, having so much fun with it, while being in shock by the quality of the artistic vision. I desperately need to explore more pre-code films, since they always manage to blow me away.
