O cinema de terror que cria todo um mistério em torno da figura do monstro, um fóssil inicialmente, mas então um terror revivido. Todo o mote de ficção científica, a idéia de novas espécies que evoluíram, mas mantiveram aspectos menos humanos e todo o conflito ético e moral em caçar, inicialmente, a origem de uma espécie se transforma em uma caçada a um monstro que cria essa configuração clássica de Bela e a Fera, mas é tudo um amor platônico. Ao mesmo tempo que a expedição se inicia como uma missão simples, a provocação estética e sensorial se choca quando uma bituca de cigarro invade aquele bioma natural. É a provocação que alinha o terror, o desconhecido; com a ficção científica, entender uma criatura Humanoide que nada a profundidades tão longas pode ser indício de uma busca humana para além da própria terra e o balé aquático, transformar o fundo de uma lagoa em um espaço tão misterioso e perigoso quanto o espaço é encantador e assustador, obra prima!

Night 1 of 31 Nights of Halloween It’s been ages since I last visited Creature from the Black Lagoon, and I can’t believe how much fun this film genuinely is. It’s surprising how well the creature’s costume holds up today, showing the power that practical effects can have. While it may not be the scariest of the monster movies, it’s certainly one of the most fun. I absolutely adore this film, and cannot wait to watch even more great horror films this month!

#3 Hallowed Be Thy Name: Hooptober 2015 (http://boxd.it/saYC) Despite its vintage crispness, Creature from the Black Lagoon is monster-movie done right. It may appear worn, but it works by feeding a classic and agreeable approach to the genre, without feeling stupid or silly.

The soundtrack is good and the underwater scenes are exquisite and still hold up! The plot is just not that engaging and the characters, except the creature, are also somewhat so-so. After some point I found myself only half-paying attention to the dialogue and the story. All I could think about was the beautiful cinematography, Guillermo, and my pre-existing belief about the vilification of sharks & aliens by the media, how their relationship with humans is somewhat similar and how mankind kinda projects their behaviour onto a conceptualized version of aliens yada yada.
