george a romero and john russo created night of the living dead and from that film romero created Dawn & Day Of The Dead, two decent zombie flicks, good sequels for Night Of The Living Dead... and yet somehow russo, co writer of Night Of The Living Dead, instead of creating an equally good sequel, he created this mess of a movie. i was so disappointed when i watched it. i knew it was going to be very different. i knew it was suppose to be a horror comedy, i expected it to be good. it was not. (sidenote: something i've noticed, it doesnt matter how bad a film is if its from the 80s or before it always has a good score and high praise here on letterboxd)

Wow this shocked me on how much I liked it. This says it's based on a true story but I highly doubt it lmao. The zombies are sick in this especially the first one. I really like the whole rock vibe this film had. The blood/gore was about the same as the other zombie films. However I honestly think this is my favorite one I've seen so far. The characters are likeable and pretty comedic at points. The standout ones are Spider, Trash and Ernie. The horror aspects work because of the comedic vibe. I really love comedic horror films that are still good horror films. This is everything I never thought would be in a zombie film. The whole exploration of why zombies eat brains was interesting and I just know realized how painful it would be to turn into one. This was way better than my expectations. That ending was pretty crazy though. It was also cool to see that a chemical makes them come to life instead of weird radiation reasons in the other films.

ohh so that’s where the zombie eating brains trope comes from? nice. really fun movie, nice mix of good, practical horror and funny moments. horror comedies that strike just the right balance? yes. love that! really gets going once it gets going. just a silly goofy time.
