Funny, cool characters, everything felt really lived-in, but I was hoping for a more engaging plot. I can't hear John Witherspoon's voice without automatically thinking of Boondocks. Real funny stuff. The fight with Deebo could've been better, the brick was unnecessary, since you'd have to be lucky not to kill someone by hitting them in the head with it. In the 90s, it would probably be a 3.5-star movie for me. I'm just lacking the nostalgic aspect of it.

COMEDYx52(024) (https://letterboxd.com/allbeef/list/comedyx52024/) #24 of 52 | Watch a comedy film from a Black director (https://letterboxd.com/jlalibs/list/2000-films-directed-by-black-american-filmmakers/genre/comedy/). Damn it, I watched this on a Thursday.

“Puff, puff, give. Puff, puff, give.” While not exactly a pillar of filmmaking, Fridayis pretty enjoyable - dumb humor and all. It feels a hell of a lot like it is trying to replicate Spike Lee’sDo the Right Thingwith a stoner twist and less of an impactful message and while it may not really reach those heights (at all), Fridaymanages to be quite entertaining throughout. Chris Tucker gives his best performance in this as well - just genuinely funny all the way through.
