okay, i just finished watching this. let's start with the good, because man, the first half had me in a chokehold. amazing premise. the show is at its absolute best when it's just him as a kid, trying to befriend and save kayo. those episodes are heartbreaking, tense, and beautiful. you feel every bit of his desperation to change this one tragic piece of his past. the mood, the music, the snow... it all just works. i was fully invested. but then... it starts to fall apart. hard. first, the mystery. about halfway through, you realize the suspect pool is tiny. like, "looking-at-three-people" tiny. the show tries to play it coy, but the villain's identity becomes painfully obvious way too early, which sucks all the genuine detective-thriller tension right out. then there's satoru's power, "revival." it's the engine of the whole plot, but they never explain it. not even a little. it just... happens when the plot needs it to. it feels less like a cool supernatural element and more like a cheat code the writers kept using to move things along. but the real crime is the ending. it's so rushed it almost feels disrespectful to the character they made us care so much about. the final confrontation with the kidnapper is underwhelming and lacks the cleverness the setup deserved. the final episode feels like they're sprinting to finish a marathon, and all the nuance and heart from the beginning gets left in the dust. so yeah, i'm left with this weird feeling. the concept is fantastic, and the journey with satoru and kayo is genuinely moving. but the payoff is so botched that it almost ruins the memory. just read the manga, honestly.
