Cult of Personality 2024 (https://letterboxd.com/allbeef/list/cult-of-personality-2024/) #17 of 52 | Michael Fassbender (https://letterboxd.com/actor/michael-fassbender/) I can’t even begin to describe the brutality of it all and the emotions that this film brings forth. It’s absolutely devastating to watch people be tortured and pushed to the brink of madness, not to mention having to watch a man wither away into nothing as he purposefully starves himself in protest. All that plus knowing the whole time that what you’re watching happened for real is just too much. And this was McQueen’s directorial debut no less! Heavy, yet necessary, yet also something I will probably never watch again.

Criterion Spine #504 Such an incredible performance by fassbender, he reminds me so much of bale in how immersive his acting is. That one take is insane, and this film feels as slow as rotting in bed starving for 66 days but it’s more thought provoking that way. I did expect to like it more but I appreciate all the elements that were well crafted into this.
