She is everything Calvin dreams of, and that is precisely what makes it unfair. He shapes her to fit his own standards, a process that remains dehumanizing, even though she exists only on paper. Ruby feels human because she believes she is, and when she finds herself trapped in an oppressive relationship with a man who created her for his own selfish desire, she breaks down. In turn, Calvin also breaks down, realizing the weight of his actions.
