Not a big fan of silent horror, but damn this was so gory, it's like A Quite Place (real quite and forest). Samara is really beautiful 😍

Azrael

Horrendamente aburridaaa, seriously, it didn’t hold my attention or interest at all. It feels like a mediocre, purposeless improvisation, a mashup of many ideas thrown into a bag and mixed together in an attempt to create an appealing concept. Big mistake! The absence of dialogue had potential, but it feels more like an excuse to avoid writing interesting characters. There’s no direction in the story, and it just strings scenes together for the sake of it. The worst part is that it doesn’t even manage to create tension. The post-apocalyptic world is generic, the threats are predictable, and the attempts at horror are as basic as they come, uninspired and ineffective. The only thing I liked was the newborn Antichrist, I found it adorable and very cutie lol

Night 14 of 31 Nights of Halloween Azrael is an interesting beast. Having no dialogue whatsoever, this isn’t the type of film where you half watch while you play on your phone. The story is easy enough to follow, not needing dialogue to understand the gist of what is going on. It would have been nice to have a bit more exposition, even if it was a large amount of text right at the beginning of the film to help us understand exactly what is going on. That being said, this isn’t a terribly difficult film to follow, and was surprisingly entertaining. Weaving does a great job at making you connect emotionally to her character, which makes the stakes even higher when the times get intense. The creature design is surprisingly simple, but worked within the confines of this world perfectly. The practical effects were gnarly, which is all I could hope for from this. Azrael may not be the most interesting watch in the world, but the filmmakers managed to make it intense and graphic in the right ways to make for a memorable watch in the end.

Enjoyable on rewatch. I appreciate the efficiency of the film. Wouldn’t have minded a bit more exposition of some sort, but the ability to make some level of interpretation is also nice. I am very curious about the larger world. 2024 Ranked (https://boxd.it/rJ4dW)

Great gore and scenes of horror but uh… what the fuck was going on half the time? I get not expanding on world lore for ambiguity and to not get bogged down in the expansion but uh, we kinda need a little something something too so we have some idea as to what’s happening or why or how. Left me with more questions than awe’s
