A Midsummer Night's Dream

❝The course of true love never did run smooth.❞ · · ─────── ·𖥸· ─────── · · A Midsummer Night's Dream is one of the first Shakespeare plays I came across, and it remains one of my favourites, so I was happy to see that this film was released and featured some great actors. As far as adaptations go, this is pretty accurate, bar the costumes. I don't understand why Victorian era clothing was chosen, and although it looked great, it doesn't really match the original play. Apart from that, I loved the set designs, especially in the fairy world, and the editing of the fairies was good too, considering the time. The score was gorgeous; overall the aesthetic was beautiful. Stanley Tucci absolutely crushed it as Puck. He had the exact mix of mischievousness and wisdom, and his facial expressions were so good. Rupert Everett kinda threw me at first because all I could hear was Prince Charming, but once I got past that he was stunning and did a great job contrasting the ethereal Michelle Pfeiffer's Titania. I loved the whole play troupe, especially Bottom and Flute (the end of Thisbe was so good). The main four did excellently too, and on the whole I was happy with the quality of acting. I really enjoyed this adaptation of a wonderful classic, and I think it's a good way to start getting into Shakespeare.
