Like Someone in Love

First time watching Kiarostami's movie, and what's up with that unfinished ending? I searching about explanation and others review, it's like they don't know either, i guess this movie is just for vibe because i kinda enjoy it, but i didn't understand what's going on. So happy that Akiko meets Takashi, because rather than some old pervert man, he's look like a green flag grandpa to me.

as i've grown older and experienced more of life and relationships, my perspective on such films has transformed. a couple of years back, films with clear moral dilemmas and straightforward characters felt more relatable. however, with age, i've come to appreciate the nuanced, more ambiguous narratives that seem to reflect the complexity of real human experiences. one of the beautiful aspects of a kiarostami film is that he makes it ambiguous enough, that through the sheer magnitude of interpretational options presented to the viewer, the film has a better chance than most at being eternal. did the film work for me? yes, and that is reason enough when i'm analyzing a film. the fact that i'm still contemplating the film a day after watching it demonstrates its success, and i feel compelled to do more than just passively experience it, i want to actively interpret and assign meaning to it. the film's ending, in particular, remains deliberately open, both figuratively and literally. the potential acts of physical aggression might be viewed not as isolated incidents, but as a climatic manifestation of the emotional journey preceding them. rather than justifying violence after the fact, the film explores the intricate conditions that gradually lead to such moments. utter kiarostami brilliance!

loneliness & connection. i love the cinematography. there are so many long shots which i'm a sucker for. i love the whole atmosphere it creates.. letting you sit there and just think for yourself. the pacing is *quite* slow but i liked it and fits perfectly with everything it's going for. with that being said, the characters feel kind of barebone to me. they aren't particularly fleshed out and you can just guess what drives them based on small hints and gestures, which makes it kind of hard to feel a deeper connection to any of them. i also gotta say: while the film is calm, relaxing and melancholic, the last 10 to 15 minutes completely did a 180 and got me stressed the fuck out. what i loved most though is how quiet it all feels. there is this sorta intimacy in watching people just exist in their own spaces. the scene in the car with akiko listening to the voicemails is probably my favorite. it is so simple, but it says so much about her isolation. - also, i need to watch more films by kiarostami.
