V/H/S/99
V/H/S/99
Didn't like this as much as 94 but not by much, and wound up almost being my favorite V/H/S in the process. No high as high as Tjahjanto's "The Subject", no low as low as that wraparound (Reeder's "Holy Hell"), and doesn't suffer from not even having a real wraparound! Every segment here was surprisingly competent and wound up at least fairly entertaining even if taking time to get there In Maggie Levin's "Shredding", a punk prank group records a music video at an underground venue condemned since another band died there a few years ago. A bit of a lull when the rest of the group lingers too long on ragging on the one member who thinks this May be a bad idea, but satisfyingly jolting when he's proven right Of the two shorts I was looking forward to, the director of The Strangers sequel Johannes Robert's "Suicide Bid" may have been barely the more underwhelming due to a quicker-than-expected ending. A freshman takes a big risk applying for only one sorority, and the sisters take a bigger one pranking her by accepting her only if she completes a dare (spend the night buried in a coffin), one that legend has it a former student tried but was left alone/forgotten for a week from and died due to The other short I was looking forward to, Flying Lotus' contribution "Ozzy's Dungeon" is probably my favorite of the film. Trevor from GTA5 hosts a kid's competition show that gets canceled after a gruesome injury. The mom won't let it go and gets back at him in hopes of either revenge or the receiving of the award her daughter should've gotten that night: the granting of a wish. Lotus lingers on the brutality longer than any of the other directors here, and as much as I didn't like his feature film debut Kuso the grossness shown there continues in a more compelling and resonant form here that pays off with what's the most surprising (but not best) ending of the anthology The best ending of the anthology is saved for the next short, Tyler MacIntyre's "The Gawkers". Creepy kids spy on the girl next door and convince one's brother, who's not a creep and also is nice enough to actually genuinely befriend her, to get spyware onto the new computer he's helping set up for her. It works, but they see more than they wanted to. When this film was first announced Lotus and Johannes were the only directors I'd seen work from; by the time I'd clicked Play on the official Shudder debut today Levin was the only one I'd still been new to. Earlier in the year I finally got to see Tragedy Girls and I kicked myself for being so late to another gay party. Despite getting off to a near-critical slow start, the payoff is rewarding enough to remind at least me this was the same mind behind that And the final short was the most fun one that wasn't Lotus', and also wasn't even the most fun thing the directors released this month. Deadstream earlier in October from the Winters, Vanessa and Joseph, instantly made me a fan of both and made me eager for more. Thankfully I didn't have to wait, and thankfully "To Hell and Back" proves it was no fluke. A cult hires two videographers to film a ritual that backfires and sends them...to hell and back. It's not a spoiler to say that, you see everything quickly and spend the duration of the time having the kind of fun you'd expect from a descent into madness (bloody and funny) made by the minds behind Deadstream. This month ensures I'll always love Joseph's funny crazed scream. Can't wait to see what it's in next So yeah, not a bad segment in the bunch. First time I've said that about a V/H/S! Would have been perfect if "Shredding" and "The Gawkers" hadn't been so long and some of that time went more towards the ending of "Suicide Bid" They already announced a sequel, 85. Shorts are directed by David Bruckner (The Night House), Scott Derrickson (The Black Phone), Gigi Saul Guerrero (Bingo Hell), Natasha Kermani (Lucky [2020]), and Mike P Nelson (Wrong Turn 2021). Kermani is the only one I haven't seen anything from and I'll try to fix that before release time. I'm so excited to see what Bruckner and Derrickson do

Pretty charming... and scattershot, but overall a fun thing to breeze through.
V/H/S/99
Hello! Because V/H/S Halloween gonna come out soon, i decided to watch V/H/S series that i've never watched (99/85/Viral) before watching the Halloween. So this is so Y2K and also why all the VHS looks like it's not finish yet, and also it's more comedic, so kinda dissapointed, but i really like Suicide Bit, damn that segment so tense and clausthrophobic, i give it 4/5. This is my ranking for another segment: 1. Suicide Bit (4/5) 2. Ozzy Dungeon (3,5/5) 3. To Hell and Back (2,5/5) 4. The Gawkers (medusa wannabe) (2/5) 5. Shredding (0,5/5)

segment 1: insufferable shitheads who got what they deserved. segment 2: the fear of being trapped in a grave thats flooding and then THAT happens... terrifyin... and then, well karma's a bitch. segment 3: the evil Legend Of The Hidden Temple/Double Dare film could have been great if they just kept it as that, but they had to turn it into some weird shit and wtf was that ending? segment 4: insufferable shitheads who got what they deserved. segment 5: i didnt even care at this point.
V/H/S/99
Night 21 of 31 Nights of Halloween The latest installment of the V/H/S franchise brings us to the conclusion of the 1990’s, offering some terrifying segments depicting the fears and anxieties of the incoming century. While it may not have the strongest assortment of shorts featured together, it’s far from the most boring. Each stands out independently, with the segment “Ozzy’s Dungeon” being the most fun and wacky, which makes sense as Flying Lotus directed it. It’s not as frightening as the other entries in the franchise, more leaning into the comedic lines of horror and comedy, but V/H/S/99is a much appreciated addition to this already great franchise.
V/H/S/99
A lot of good gory practical effects and interesting concepts but, as was the case with the previous entry in this "franchise", everything is just so poorly executed.

Okaaay? Two outta five of these short stories ruled and the other three were kinda ass – especially the Medusa one where it had the most truly insufferable set of characters. But hey, those two that I did enjoy made the whole thing sorta worthwhile, probably because they spread out within the film My first VHS and probably not my last! That ratman or whatever in 94 looks interesting.
